Sound and picture go hand-in-hand. Whether it’s use is surreal, hyper-realistic, or the intentional absence, sound is always guiding our experience.

I’m Dan, an Australian sound designer and re-recording engineer from Brisbane. I’ve been a resident in the film world for 4 years, collaborated with many talented filmmakers, and won several awards.

DIALOGUE EDITING

Production relies on many on-set microphones, across multiple spaces, changing camera orientations, regularly recorded at different times of the day - no recording the same. The dialogue editor’s challenge is to craft a cohesive and immersive experience for the audience.

FOLEY

Foley is the tactile sounds that arise from human interaction with the world around them. Footsteps on the pavement, a page being turned in a journal, cutlery dropped, rustling clothes. The small enriching details you don’t notice until they’re absent.

SOUND DESIGN

The artistic manipulation and combination of multiple singular sound sources to create something completely new and bespoke. It’s what gives an extreme weather event believable gravitas; it can be overwhelming to builds tension; it can be subtle and communicate themes unspoken on-screen.

DUBBING MIX

Historically conducted on a dubbing stage, the dubbing mix aims to objectively contextualises all of the sound assets (dialogue, foley, SFX, score) to effectively communicate the films story.

This stage is also known as the re-recording mix
